How to Search Ramsey County Court Records
The main online search channel is Minnesota Court Records Online Case Search, usually called MCRO. MCRO is a Minnesota Judicial Branch system for District Court case information, public registers of actions, and some online public documents. What Ramsey County Court Records Show
A Ramsey County court record may be a public case summary, a register of actions, a calendar entry, a filed document, or a certified copy issued by court administration. Document Search is narrower than Case Search because it requires a case number and only returns public documents available online.
Public Access for Ramsey County Court Records
Public access to Ramsey County court records comes from a mix of court rules and data law. The Minnesota Rules of Public Access to Records of the Judicial Branch govern judicial branch records, including inspection, copying, bulk access, and remote access. Rule 4 identifies categories of case records that are not accessible to the public. MCRO's online document access also points to Rule 8 for remote records.
County administrative and sheriff records follow a different channel under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. Ramsey County says government data is public unless state or federal law makes it nonpublic, and public data can be viewed for free while copies may carry a charge. That county process does not replace District Court certified copy requests. Court-certified copies still come from the Ramsey County District Court Records Office.

Restricted Ramsey County Court Records
Restricted records are common in the same system that holds public court files. Juvenile cases are generally confidential, with limited public access for certain felony cases when the juvenile was at least 16 at the time of the alleged offense. Domestic abuse order for protection and harassment restraining order case types do not display on the internet because of federal Violence Against Women Act restrictions. Child protection, juvenile delinquency felony 16, and public documents in civil commitment cases also have online limits.
MCRO removes party street addresses and many comment fields from remote results. Pending criminal, traffic, and petty misdemeanor cases without a conviction may not appear through defendant-name search, even if a case-number search works. Sealed and expunged criminal records are limited under Minnesota Chapter 609A. A person who needs access to a nonpublic document may need identity verification, statutory authority, or a judge's order.

In-Person Ramsey County Court Record Requests
The in-person and copy channel is the Ramsey County District Court Records Office in Room 72. The office can provide certified, exemplified, and plain copies for documents filed in Ramsey County District Court cases. Requests may be made in person, by phone, or by mail. Payment is required before copies are provided. Mail requests use check or money order, phone requests use credit or debit cards, and in-person requests may use cash, check, money order, credit card, or debit card.
Older Ramsey court records deserve special care.
